Biology is the leading science of the twenty-first century and is at the heart of the life sciences. It describes an organism from the molecular to the organismic and systemic level, thus contributing to a holistic understanding of life principles.
In 2008 the new Biocenter at the HighTechCampusLMU in Martinsried-Großhadern was launched. This new location provides excellent conditions for research and teaching in the fields of anthropology, botany, evolutionary biology, genetics, human genetics, microbiology, neurobiology, ecology, systematic biology, cell biology, and zoology. This wide range of subjects, leading either to bachelor and master degrees or teaching credentials, is complemented by inter-faculty courses in computational biology and biochemistry.
The faculty’s high level of research and teaching is impressively reflected in its many Collaborative Research Centers and Research Training Groups, both funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), as well as focus programs, colloquia for junior scientists, extensive externally funded research projects, numerous national and international joint projects, and business spin-offs.
