Excellence Strategy

In June 2016, Federal and State Governments agreed to extend the Excellence Initiative in a modified form. The aim of the new Excellence Strategy is to support the further development of cutting-edge research at German universities. Beginning in 2019, funding lines will be available for Clusters of Excellence and Universities of Excellence. In this Third Phase of the initiative, LMU has now cleared the first hurdle.

In the preliminary evaluation by an international Committee of Experts, five of its draft proposals for Clusters of Excellence (four of which were submitted in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich) were favorably received. Detailed proposals will now be prepared, which must be submitted by February 21st 2018.
