Sustained emphasis on the international nature of research, teaching, the promotion of junior academics and governance is the basis of LMU's long-term development planning.
The University maintains an extensive international network of cooperations. LMU Munich cooperates with renowned partner institutions on all levels ranging from teaching through research to administration, including 400 universities, located in all parts of the world.
In the context of its Institutional Strategy LMUexcellent, LMU Munich has created several instruments to further enhance its international visibility as the leading research-intensive university in Germany. These measures have improved the framework for international academic exchange, and increased the University’s attractiveness for leading researchers from all over the world. They include the establishment of Guest Professorships, Visiting Fellowships as well as Fellowships to be held at the Center for Advanced Studies (CAS), and the LMU Research Fellowships. These instruments are supplemented by international key cooperations maintained by LMU Munich with internationally renowned universities.
By closely cooperating with renowned universities and non-university research institutions, LMU Munich’s Graduate School and Clusters of Excellence substantially contribute to the expansion of the international research network into which LMU Munich is integrated
