Flaubert Center Munich

The Flaubert Center Munich is part of the LMU Institute of Romance
Philology and cooperates closely with the Centre Flaubert (CNRS, ENS)
in Paris. Its objective is to liberate the French novelist from the confines
of national philology, striving towards a European research association
that extends beyond binational relations. The research focus is on illuminating
Flaubert’s incorporation of the Ancients, the emerging field of
oriental studies, and theology. A Flaubert guest professorship to be
held by internationally renowned scholars, made possible by the Excellence
Initiative, and a research library, sponsored by the Carl Friedrich
von Siemens Foundation, are designed to open up new horizons in
Flaubert studies. The Flaubert Lectures are published by August Verlag,
Berlin. The Center is cofinanced by the DFG (German Research
Foundation) and the ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche).
