Munich Center on Governance, Communication, Public Policy and Law (MCG)

The Munich Center on Governance, Communication, Public Policy and Law (MCG) at LMU Munich acts as an institutional platform to facilitate and deepen cooperation between the disciplines of political science, law, economics, and mass communication. Research at MCG focuses on three areas. The first analyzes complex government regimes via the interaction of a variety of coordination mechanisms such as law and consensus or market and hierarchy. The second explores the territorial differentiation between differing levels of governance. Particular attention is given to the effectiveness of federalism and the design of new transnational institutions. The third investigates the growing media orientation of decision-making processes in politics, business, and law and the impact of this development on the functioning and performance of the regulatory domains affected. By selecting these research areas, LMU Munich aims to develop a specific “Munich profile” for governance research with a strong international resonance.
