Summer School: Teaching interventions crossing borders

The Center for International Health (CIH) is one of five Centers of Excellence in Higher Education in
Development Cooperation funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and
Development within the German Academic Exchange Services’ exceed program. It aspires to meet
health-related challenges through capacity building in training and research. Its vision is to empower
health professionals around the globe.

In this context, CIH identified that while many epidemiological studies are carried out across the world to identify risk factors for certain diseases only few of them take the next step in the research cycle and develop interventions in order to implement the identified prevention strategies. This problem is common in e.g., public, occupational and environmental health. One method for such interventions is the use of innovative teaching methods in order to train the population affected and let them take informed decisions.
