LMU Student from China receives DAAD Award 2007

Munich, 12/14/2007

Chinese student Jingyang Xue has received this year’s German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) award for exceptional academic achievement and extraordinary commitment to university affairs. The 22-year-old is a highly successful fifth-semester student of Theoretical Linguistics, Computer Linguistics and Philosophy at LMU.

The award, which comes with prize money of 1,000 euros, honors in particular the social commitment of the Magister student: Less than a year ago, Jingyang Xue organized the Internet forum “Chinese Linguists in Germany”, which is now used by some 30 Chinese students to discuss linguistic matters online. In addition, through the “Association of Chinese Students and Academics in Munich”, Xue helps fellow students from her home country integrate into student life in Munich, as well as assisting them in organizational matters regarding their studies.

Jingyang Xue has been studying German language and culture since she was twelve years old. She is a graduate from a renowned language school in her hometown Nanjing and received the First-Class Student Prize from the Beijing Foreign Studies University after her two-year degree course there in German Studies.
