Theater Studies Professor Patrice Pavis comes to LMU Munich as a guest professor
French theater scholar Patrice Pavis, who received the “Prix Gay-Lussac-Humboldt” award in February, will be a guest professor at LMU Munich in the 2008 summer semester. Pavis is a professor for theater studies at the Département Théâtre at Université Paris 8 and is a renowned leading expert on contemporary theater. His publications on theater semantics, performance analysis and intercultural theater have contributed significantly to fundamental research on theater and performance practice. At LMU Munich Pavis will be in charge of an interdisciplinary research project primarily examining the relations and points of contact between visual arts and performance culture.
Since 1983, the French Ministry of Culture and Research and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has annually awarded the “Prix Gay-Lussac-Humboldt” to five French and five German researchers. The prize acknowledges outstanding academic work and achievements in establishing and strengthening ties in German-French collaboration in the respective subject areas.
