Munich, 06/02/2010

At its meeting yesterday, the University Council of LMU Munich re-elected Professor Bernd Huber for a further term as President of LMU. The University Council's decision was carried by 15 out of 16 votes. Professor Huber's third term will start on 1 October 2010 and will last six years.

This was the first time the LMU President has been elected by the University Council, which consists of eight university members and eight external members. In addition to Professor Huber, Professor Julian Nida-Rümelin also stood for election. The nomination was made by the Chairman of the Senate, Professor Martin Hose, and by the Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Nikolaus von Bomhard (Chairman of the Board of Management of Munich Re).

"We congratulate Professor Huber on his re-election and wish him every success in the further development of LMU. We specifically thank both candidates for their willingness to stand as President and for their commitment to LMU," stated von Bomhard and Hose.
