Research on the origin of life
Dieter Braun, who is also a member of the Cluster of Excellence “Nanosystems Initiative Munich” (NIM), and his team impressed the board – amongst other projects - with their research on biomolecules within a temperature gradient. Based on their observations, the biophysicists developed and commercialized a method for screening new drugs in medicine. At the same time, the scientists made major contributions to our understanding of the evolution of molecules and the origin of life.
The Klung-Wilhelmy-Weberbank prize 2011 is awarded by two private foundations and the Berlin Weberbank foundation. The public award ceremony took place at the Freie Universität Berlin.
