US Ambassador Murphy to speak at LMU

On the occasion of his forthcoming visit to LMU, the US Ambassador to Germany, Philip D. Murphy, will present a lecture on “The German-American Partnership in the 21st Century.”

The lecture takes place at 7 pm on the evening of Wednesday, 17 October 2012, in the Main Assembly Hall (“Große Aula”) at LMU, Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 1,
and will be given in English.

Philip D. Murphy was accredited as American Ambassador to Germany on 3 September 2009. Born in the Boston area of Massachusetts in 1957, he was educated at Harvard University, graduating in 1979 with a degree in Economics. In 1983, he obtained an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He spent most of his business career with Goldman Sachs, rising to become a Senior Director of the firm. In 2006 he was named National Finance Chair on the Democratic National Committee, relinquishing this position upon his appointment as Ambassador in 2009. He and his wife Tammy have four children.
