25 years Munich - Cincinnati

Cooperation with U. Cincinnati reaffirmed

München, 07/02/2014

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the twinning agreement between the cities of Munich and Cincinnati, LMU and the University of Cincinnati are intensifying their own long-standing cooperation.

In addition to the existing exchange agreements in medicine and communications sciences, which were initiated nearly 20 years ago, the two universities had already decided to extend their collaboration to all subject areas with the beginning of the Winter Semester 2013/2014. In order to put these good intentions into practice, identify opportunities for innovative cooperative projects and consolidate already successful collaborations, a high-level delegation from the University of Cincinnati, led by Professor Beverly Davenport (Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Director of University Administration) will arrive for talks at LMU today. The visitors will meet with Professor Hans van Ess (LMU Vice-President for International Affairs), as well as academic representatives of the areas of Medicine, Informatics, American Studies, Communications Science and Political Science.

Founded in 1819, the University of Cincinnati in southern Ohio currently caters for 43,000 students, and has a particularly distinguished reputation in the field of Pediatrics, where it is ranked third among its peers in the US. LMU‘s Faculty of Medicine and the UC’s College of Medicine have maintained close ties for nearly 20 years. According to the terms of the exchange agreement concluded in 1996, which will be formally extended today, selected pediatricians in training can do part of their internship at the partner institution. In addition, the Summer School in Electronic Media, which was held for the first time 6 years ago, will be continued. Some 150 undergraduates have so far become acquainted with the ins and outs of Media Theory and Technology, Media Management, Informatics and Communications Science at the Summer School, and the program includes a 4-week internship with a media organization in the Munich area.
