More than 10 years ago, LMU was one of the first universities in Germany to introduce tenure track professorships. Meanwhile, the tenure track program has become an integral part of our strategy for faculty appointments and career development at LMU.

Munich Tenure Track Model

LMU offers highly qualified early-career researchers with international experience attractive W2 tenure track professorships. Tenure track professors can benefit from academic independence at an early stage in their academic careers and an excellent infrastructure.

LMU ERC Tenure Track Program

ERC Starting Grants are awarded to outstanding postdoctoral researchers with an excellent academic track record that demonstrates their potential as future research leaders: In the context of the Munich Tenure Track Model, LMU offers tenure track professorships to successful ERC Starting Grantees in all fields of research. In addition, LMU provides special coaching services to ERC applicants.

Funding opportunities

LMU offers funding schemes designed to support its junior researchers, and provides assistance to academics in a variety of ways during the course of their research.

Personal development

LMU supports the personal development and career progression of its junior researchers by providing a wide range of professional training options.

Relocation Services

The "LMU Gateway" Office assists new international academic staff and their families in all matters related to their relocation to Munich.
