Munich Tenure Track Model
More than 10 years ago, LMU was one of the first universities in Germany to introduce tenure track professorships. Meanwhile, the tenure track program has become an indispensable part of the system of faculty appointments and career development at LMU.
What we offer
Our Tenure Track Model is designed to provide a clearly defined career path for talented junior researchers, which opens up a realistic prospect of academic advancement. Almost all W2 Professorships advertised include the tenure track option, for which a specific permanent position has already been reserved. LMU offers tenure track professors academic independence at an early stage in their academic careers and provides them with an excellent infrastructure.
Evaluation of applications for tenure
Tenure track professors are appointed in accordance with the normal assessment procedures and receive a fixed-term contract in the first instance. Conversion into fully tenured positions is subject to positive evaluation of performance – after 3 years at the earliest or 6 years at the latest.
Note that in the case of exceptionally impressive performance, tenure track W2 professorships can be converted into permanent chairs (W3).
