Christmas Event December 2018
We concluded the year 2018 by visiting Munich Airport with 44 international researchers and their families. Munich Airport is Germany’s third-biggest airport, registering 405,000 plane movements and 44.6 million passengers in 2017. A guided English-language tour in a private bus that took the participants right across the airfield made it possible to see how these impressive numbers work in practice. From close up, the group was introduced to the many procedures that need to be observed at an airport – preparing planes for take-off, unloading cargo, and performing security checks.
A highlight of the tour was being able to watch planes take off into the winter sunset, while thousands of lights sparkled on the runway. After the tour, a visit to the airport’s Christmas and Winter Market spread some festive cheer. The children had fun skating on the large ice rink, while newly arrived LMU scientists had the opportunity to get to know each other over a hot drink. Thank you for your participation, and we look forward to seeing you again at one of our events next year.
