Allianz Arena VIP Tour October 23rd, 2016
Due to the success of this tour in July, LMU Gateway organized a second VIP Tour of the Allianz Arena. It was a real family event with 31 participants joining this exclusive tour – a mix of professors and postdocs of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich, together with their partners and children. We got the chance to see the arena inside out, including the executive lounges, the changing rooms, the press room and the players´ tunnel. It was a special treat to sit on the player’s benches and to imagine a live football match in front of us. The VIP tour was followed by a sparkling wine reception and lunch which was an opportunity to get to know other researchers from the LMU.

After last year’s success, our second LMU Gateway Oktoberfest event took place at the end of September in the traditional Ochsenbraterei tent. This exclusive event brought together 39 international professors and researchers as well as their partners. The Oktoberfest was again a great occasion for exchange among researchers from different countries and faculties as well as their partners on a professional as well as a personal level. It was also an opportunity to learn about Bavarian history, to acquire some Bavarian vocabulary and to sing along to German and Bavarian songs that are traditionally played at the biggest Volksfest in the world. We would like to thank everyone for joining us at this great event and we look forward to seeing you next year!

Allianz Arena VIP Tour July 3rd, 2016
In light of the European Football Championship in July, LMU Gateway organized a VIP Tour of the Allianz Arena which is one of the world´s finest football stadiums. 22 participants, all professors and researchers of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich, together with their partners and children joined us for an exclusive guided tour in English which included the stadium, the business club, the changing rooms, the mixed zone and the players´ tunnel. We all got the chance to walk up to the “crocodile´s mouth” like real football stars with the Champions League theme song playing in the background. The magnitude of the arena became evident as we stood alongside the field and pretended to cheer on our team. The VIP tour was followed by a visit to the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt, an exhibition featuring countless fascinating items on display of one of Europe´s most famous and successful football clubs.
Due to the success of this event, we are planning another VIP tour in October. The date is yet to be confirmed. We hope to see you there.

Christmas Event in Berchtesgaden 2015
At this year’s family-oriented Christmas Event in December, we spent a delightful winter day in Berchtesgaden, located in the Bavarian Alps. Twenty-four participants, of which many international families with children, accompanied us during this day trip. After an adventurous guided tour through the Salt Mine of Berchtesgaden, everybody heated up in a traditional Bavarian restaurant in the center of old town. Once it got darker outside, we followed the lights and delights of the Christkindlmarkt – and discovered German Christmas traditions such as Glühwein and Lebkuchen.

At the end of September we celebrated our first event – at the biggest Volksfest worldwide, the Oktoberfest! 40 international professors and academics celebrated with us in the traditional tent Ochsenbraterei – which offers ox-roasting since 1881 as their specialty. While the newly arrived international academics got the chance to meet new LMU-colleagues from abroad, the Oktoberfest-participants also enjoyed the tent-atmosphere, the typical Volksmusik and learned more about the Bavarian culture and tradition. We thank all guests for their participation and for making our LMU Gateway Oktoberfest a huge success!
