Career Steps for Postdocs in Academia and Industry

Career Steps is Max-Planck Society's major annual career event for postdoctoral researchers. In 2018, it is organized in cooperation with Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich).

Date: October 12th, 2018, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Venue: LMU Munich
Leopoldstraße 13, 80802 Munich (subway station Giselastraße)
Registration: https://s-lotus.gwdg.de/mpg/mmgv/careersteps.nsf/anmeldung
Deadline: October 1st, 2018

The German Universities of Excellence and the Max Planck Institutes offer outstanding opportunities for talented junior scientists to advance their careers. In recent years, there has been a public discussion on the need to provide the next generation of scientists with the necessary know-how and mind-set to succeed in a broad range of professional arenas: publicly funded research institutions, private corporations or entrepreneurial endeavors such as start-ups.

Career Steps takes stock of the fact that the ambition to promote future principal academic investigators does not contradict the aim to properly prepare junior scientists for a career in industry: Nowadays, training in academia is strengthening the focus on transferable skills and the life-long-learning approach already applied in industry. Postdoctoral positions in academia are more than ever an educational step towards developing soft skills as well as management qualifications and an international mindset.

LMU Munich and the Max Planck Society would like to invite you to a one-day event offering an overview on how to access the academic job market, how to pursue a career outside academia as well as training, coaching and individual advice for successfully planning your future career steps.

Slots for participation in the workshops are limited!

The event will be held in English!

Please note that during the event photos and/or film footage will be taken which may potentially be published for purposes of reporting and general public relations (e.g. website, newsletter). If you do not agree with the publication of your photo(s) or film footage, we kindly ask you to inform us via forschungsfoerderung@lmu.de.
