Language Requirements

In order to make the most of your experience in Munich and at LMU Munich, it is important to have good German language skills. Although many departments offer modules taught in English, the language of instruction at LMU is generally German, particularly at bachelor level.

Before beginning your studies as an exchange student at LMU you are required to have level B2 (according to the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages"), unless stated otherwise in the list below. The same applies if you plan to take courses in English.

If you choose to take only courses taught in English no German language skills are required. Departments offering courses in English are listed at Choosing Courses.

If, at the time of application, you do not fulfill the language requirements either in German or in English you still can apply for an exchange period at LMU. Your application will be individually assessed by the faculty in which you plan to take courses.
