We have great public transportation in Munich, and all the signs are in both German and English. Getting to town or to any of the university buildings should be at least as easy as it is at home!

Since LMU is an urban university with buildings throughout the city, we’ll give you general directions on how to get to LMU’s main locations, but you can also get more info on how to get to LMU via train, car, etc.

We recommend you buy a single day ticket for your first trip into town and around. If you are arriving at the Munich airport, you will have to buy a day ticket that’s valid for the entire network of the Munich transportation system (Gesamtnetz) since the airport is far from the middle of town. If you’re traveling in a group, you can buy a “partner pass” (Gesamtnetz) that is valid for up to five adults.

For getting around Munich during your stay, you may want to purchase a student semester ticket. For more information on public transportation in Munich, as well as fares and tickets, please consult the website of the MVV (Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund).
