Welcome and Orientation

Orientation is both a fun and practical way to get ready for social and academic success at LMU Munich. You’ll be meeting other international students and learning the ins and outs of life at LMU together. We have dedicated orientation programs for exchange students and for degree students, so have a look at the program that’s right for you.
This welcome event organized by our Erasmus+ and LMUexchange incoming teams is not just about the practical matters for the weeks and months ahead. It’s also about getting to know each other and having some fun. After a general session in German and English, members of the Erasmus+ and LMUexchange teams are prepared to answer your questions. The Q&A will be followed by workshops you can choose from based on your interests and goals for your stay in Munich and at LMU.
Orientation at LMU
During the first weeks of your stay in Munich, we offer excursions and events to make your start at LMU a good one. We’ll show you around Munich and LMU while you meet new friends, get to know your professors, and sharpen your cross-cultural communication skills. This optional orientation occurs during the preparatory weeks in September and March and includes helpful events for your social, academic, and daily life. And you can register online!
Intensive Orientation with the Munich International Summer University (MISU)
In October or March, you’ll have the chance to attend a two-week orientation that rolls language preparation, entertainment, excursions, and practical information about studying at LMU into one comprehensive introduction to Munich and LMU. You can get more information (on cost, schedule, etc.) and application forms online. This event is part of the International Summer University MISU and is organized jointly by the International Office at LMU and the International University Club Munich (IUCM).
This German- and English-language event is your lifeline for practical information about your studies at LMU and life in Munich, including important services and contact points. The same day, there is an Information Fair for International Students with stands of international student clubs, the Munich Student Union, LMU Intercultural Counseling, the LMU Student Career Service, and other fun and helpful organizations.
Orientation for First-Year Degree Students
As an international degree student, you’ll attend a range of first-year orientation sessions (Erstsemesterveranstaltungen, in German) along with your fellow German students. Many departments also offer their own special welcome events for new international students. They offer an introduction to the department and program, important tips for planning your studies, and opportunities to connect with your fellow students. Come with any questions about the university, your program, or anything else that crosses your mind.
