Statement of Prof. Dr. Francesca Biagini
The dramatic development and spread of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has forced the global community to face unprecedented challenges. The implications are often existential, with many of us facing serious consequences in planning both life and career. To a greater or lesser extent, the impact entails for all of us incisive changes to our everyday lives. In this difficult situation I firstly wish to express my deepest sympathy to both those directly affected by the disease and their families.
Also, I wish to emphasize LMU’s solidarity with all international partners. We will endeavor to do everything in our power to sustain and, in light of this crisis, intensify our collaborations in all areas. With this in mind, we are trying to find not only pragmatic solutions as quickly as possible for the immediate issues concerning international exchange and cooperation but we are also seeking new and enduring approaches in internationalization.
I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our international partners for making us feel that we are all in the same boat and are acting together in the same spirit. We are a cosmopolitan and forward-looking university which welcomes international students, graduates and researchers, even though, in light of closed borders and international travel restrictions, the welcome for the moment unfortunately cannot be expressed personally but only virtually.
With very best wishes
Francesca Biagini, Vice President for Diversity und International Relations
