"Total E-Quality Award"
LMU Munich received the national “Total E-Quality Award" in 2009 for its gender mainstreaming concept. The award honors the university’s exemplary commitment to creating equal opportunities for men and women. Factors which convinced the jury included an array of tools and concepts for supporting junior academics and promoting family-friendly conditions, such as the Dual Career Service, which provides assistance for dual-career couples, and the LMU Mentoring Program, which supports highly qualified young academics on their way to a professorship. The award primarily marked the priority given by LMU Munich to equal opportunities and gender mainstreaming as issues of strategic importance.
Equal opportunity as understood by the Total E-Quality Award is achieved when “the gifts, potential and expertise of both genders are equally recognized, involved and supported”. The award takes the form of a certificate and authorization to use the Total E-Quality logo. Valid for three years, it is presented by the German association Total E-Quality-Verein Deutschland e. V. to German organizations from the worlds of business, science and management/administration which have more than 15 employees and have excelled in promoting equal career opportunities for men and women. The project receives funding from the German Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
