Center of Eastern European Studies (ZfO)

The Center of Eastern European Studies (ZfO) houses interdisciplinary
research and teaching programs dedicated to Eastern and South-Eastern
Europe. The staff includes specialists in political and social sciences,
theology and ethnology, as well as historians and literary scholars. The
aim of the ZfO is to illuminate the process of social, political and cultural
transformation that is in progress throughout the region by placing it
in its historical context, and to study its long-term implications for the
rest of Europe and the wider world. The ZfO participates in scientific
collaborations with many universities and research establishments in
Eastern and Southeastern Europe, and also cooperates with the Centers
for Eastern European Studies at the University of California in Berkeley
and the University of Alberta in Edmonton.
