Center of Ecumenical Research

The Center of Ecumenical Research (ZöF) is a joint undertaking of the Faculties of Catholic and Protestant Theology and of the Institute of Orthodox Theology. The Center thus provides researchers with the opportunity, unique in Europe, to advance ecumenical research at a state university in an ongoing dialog with the three major Christian denominations.

The aims of ZöF include research into the theological and non-theological grounds for mutual condemnation among Christian churches in the past as well as their impact in our day and age. In addition, ZöF serves to facilitate an ecumenical orientation among church bodies and leadership.

The Center places particular importance on expanding the ecumenical approach to encompass inter-religious dialog, primarily the trialog between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
